MiniMod Thread

Postby adog12341 » Fri Jan 21, 2011 9:08 pm

I thought it'd be a cool idea to put up a thread for people to post some little mods/fixes they've found and for guides for common problems. These minimods/guides should include pictures or videos.

Recommended things are stuff like gun disassembly(especially for uncommon guns, I plan to put up one for my M14 soon enough), internal mods, external mods, walkthroughs for complicated tasks, or anything you can think of!

If you guys want to participate, just go ahead and post 'em up! If it gets large enough, I'll post up links to each MiniMod. :D

This is a REALLY good idea, I'm going to go start one over in the springer forum.

This could be a good idea but that all depends on what you mean by mods.

I have something to contribute that isn't exactly a mod, but a ghetto cleaning rod if you broke yours or don't have one.

1.) Get several straws and a box of q-tips. */b/rotip: use magnets for faster acquire*
2.) Take one straw and insert it about an inch deep into the end of another straw (inb4anysexualjoke).
3.) Repeat step two until desired length is reached for your gun's barrel.
4.) Stick a q-tip at the end of the combined straws.
5.) BEHOLD!!! You now have made your own ghetto cleaning rod.

Does this count?

Sorry, forgot to clairify:
@Jonas: I'm trying to make this a universal thread, where people can post up mods, and I'll paste the link to the post in the main post(IE, the first post), so you can just click the link and it'll take you to the direct post made on the tread.
@Koolaidz/all: Any "ghetto rigging" Mods will be accepted. :) If you can get some pic's of the steps, all the better! :D

I got one! Without pictures though...

- UTG/Double Eagles/TSD M3 trishot quick-detach barrel -
Start dissasembling the front of the shotgun by first removing the circular thing that holds the front sling mount in place. Take out the sling mount and start taking out the screws on the bottom of the ring that attaches the outer barrel to the faux shell tube. Work your way down the tube and remove any screws that attach to the outer barrel. Once you reach the receiver and you are able to remove the outer barrel, put everything back together except for those worthless screws you just took out. Now try it out, unscrew the circular thing and you should be able to pull the barrel out easily.

This is good for painting and repainting, and if you have the longer barreled version - storage.

I have one...But no pictures. It really doesn't need any though.
-How to fix annoying rail/handguard wobble (IF you have a real steel style delta ring)-
Things you will need: pliers, a couple minutes of time.
Remove your rail system and or hand guards
Take the pliers, grip them onto the spikey circular strip thing inside the delta ring, and twist to the right. This tightens up the delta ring, hence removing the irritating wobble.
If this does not work, chances are something INSIDE of your delta ring is broken. This happened to me.
Kind of back on the forum. I will occasionally post when I have nothing to do. Still will respond to pm's as normal if I home and paying attention.

Best regards, the new and improved Silversage/Silverherb/Silverware/etc etc.

I still have my main gun as my loved AK74, and I've come to notice trying a fast reload with gloves on sucks both when taking it out of my vest and getting it in/out of the gun at the AK angle pivot thing (you know) so what I've done is put hockey stick/grip tape in 3 or four strands wide on the mags right where I grab them to reload and it I put them in my vest right, you can pull them out a lot easier!

I have heard many ways of making homemade magpuls (using different kinds of tape, pieces of old belts, paracord, etc)
but this is what I have found to be the way that work best for me.

1. Take a piece of duct tape that is the length you want the loop of the magpul plus 2 inches. fold it in half the long way while placing a zip-tie so it is stuck between the tape.

2. Get a piece of duct tape that is long enough to wrap around the base of your mag and cut/rip in half the long way. Use one of those pieces around the base of you mag to hold the loop piece (see step 1) in place.

I have found that the zip-tie will give the magpul rigidity so that it is always forming an open loop, like real magpuls, however, when you drop your mags in a dump pouch they can still flex and fold down so they don't take up too much room, where real magpuls refuse to fold down.

For best results use camo duct tape

Arctic Camouflage Mod:

For those of you like me that do not like painting your guns, I have come up with an extremely easy mod for your gun. What you will need...

1) White Electrical Tape (I got mine at Home Depot this morning when I decided to do this for $4.00)
2) Scissors
3) An airsoft gun (Obviously)

Okay so this is very easy. All you need to do is start wrapping the tape all around the parts you would like to be wrapped. I personally don't like my receiver taped up so I just did my hand guards, barrel, barrel extension, and stock. It takes about 10 minutes and is absolutely simple, and cheap. This is much easier then painting!

Some tips...

1) Make sure to keep the tape straight so it does not bump, and create bulges which can degrade the look.
2) Take your time, and make sure you have the look you want.
3) Leave little portions of the gun showing. I think it looks better that way, but it's your call!
4) Try not to make too many touch up's as you will start to get unwanted lines.
5) USE ELECTRICAL TAPE so when you are removing the tape it will not stick.
6) If you like it do it on the magazines as well.

Here are some pictures of how I did mine.

I hope that this will help those that hate painting like me. Thanks!
