I would disagree, but the military and afghani government are pretty corrupt right now. the problem is that we shouldnt have been involved at all, and neither should have been the USSR because the government before that was working well

Here's a doco you should watch.

There are Taliban-aligned civilians, who wish for nothing more than peace. Since civilians have been mass-displaced over the years, you've got civilians from different factions living in the same villages. Ex-taliban fighters, ex-military... As a result, you've got villages full of people that hate each other, and don't help each other when they get raided. In almost every scene where guns get shot in this doco, the Afghan police officers and military will claim they are shooting at Taliban when they have seen nothing at all. They blame everything on the Taliban, and accuse anyone they don't like of being Taliban, which then, for them, justifies illegal kidnapping and under-the-radar prisoners who eventually get buried out in the middle of nowhere.

The whole entire thing is a mess and you can't fix it.

Some places are just better off without the west or the east intervening.

if you can imagine being a woman under taliban rule you might reconsider your opinion of the taliban. I read a book (forget the name) written by a prominent female politician in afghanistan, Fawzia Kufi, which greatly details the way women aren't allowed to go out without a full burka or a male relative. how they can be raped, beaten, and killed if they do. how anyone can be imprisoned with out any cause... its a real longshot to say that the taliban isn't bad

Sounds like Saudi-Arabia, i think Shia muslims are more allowing of womans rights since you can see clear difference when you compare the rights of women in KSA & Iran.

Taliban or no Taliban. Fundamental Islam is geared against women.

the whole place is just a mess... if the "western world" didn't have a tendancy of starting wars and invading places the whole place would be happy...

probably because most fundamental islamists are men who believe that they are more important than women...

Read the bible & other books that are related with Christianity and youll find plenty of same **** that is in Islam, the difference is that most Christians dont take it as seriously as the muslims do.

The western world had to get involved in Middle-East because of the Cold War, if USSR had control over the oil it would have been quite bad for the rest of the world.

While Russia essentially lost most of its military influence when the USSR broke up the west has been just expanding its military influence, bases in Asia & Middle-East and NATO being on Russias footsteps.

Neither Russian or US influence in Middle-East that is going on right now is good, both are working for their own interests and not for the interests of the people who live there.

That pretty much sums it up.

So in case you have not heard of the UKIP, they have more seats in the European Parliament than any other political party from the UK. But this was not the case before the last general election back in May. They are a libertarian populist party, meaning that they favor limited government and extended freedoms for the British. The British are fed up with the European Union, so they elected UKIP members to convince the world that they don't need it; that it doesn't help their country. Nigel Farage leads the UKIP, and he's a spectacle to watch as he can deconstruct any argument brought against him with sheer knowledge and his sky-high charisma.

On a domestic level, however, the UKIP is not nearly as popular as the Labour or Conservative parties, but it's evident that they are picking up momentum as the nanny-state makes it evident that it cannot protect the lives of its people no matter how strict it is. Nigel Farage is probably aiming for the seat of Prime Minister in the next election, which won't fix everything, but will certainly send the UK in the right direction.

Ukrainian "cyborgs" that are still defending the Donetsk airport combined with some Ukrainian music.
I have no idea if the situation in Ukraine is something that interests people in the US as much as it does us in the Europe but anyways.
Based on the context i decided that the video deserves to be in the politics thread instead of the Youtube one, and happy new year for anyone who stumbles across this post. :P
