Flipper, it is actually part of the blade thus making it an assisted-open not automatic.
The safety is fairly hard to undo lest you manually play with it while it sits in your pocket. Also, because the leek is tip down carry, it will have a better time slicing your hand than your leg if it was to somehow (VERY small chance) open up in your pocket.
If you are that finky about the blade opening in your pocket (like myself), get a manual opening Benchmade with axis lock, it opens just as fast and is easier to close than Speedsafe.
