Spyderco Sharpmaker vs Lansky Diamond Sharpener

Postby Daniel » Fri Nov 04, 2011 5:32 pm

I've been planning on buying a sharpening system for a while and I've narrowed it down to these two. Which do you guys think would be best?

Spyderco
Ultra fine stone

Lansky
Ultra fine stone

Spyderco Triangle Sharpener with Diamond rods.

The fine rods that come with the set is more than enough to get a razor edge. <-- ok depends on the grind of your knife.

I can vouch for the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpener. The medium and fine triangular rods that come with the kit takes care of pretty much all of your needs. I do have a question for you, Daniel, are you sharpening smooth edges or smooth and serrated edges? The Spyderco kit covers both. To use the Lansky kit on serrated edges, you have to buy an additional triangular rod for serrated edges. I have used both the Lansky system and the Spyderco system on my Spydercos and other blades. They both work well. I have the older (without the neat case) Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpener and have had it for years. All of my knives stay sharp because of it.

I plan on sharpening just plain edge blades. I don't really like partially serrated blades. Thanks :)
