First off,I want to make it clear that I know almost nothing about knives. I currently have a Gerber para-frame. It has lasted my light use well, but Christmas is coming up soon and I have decided to replace my old knife. My new knife will be a gift from a relative who has a history of giving expensive gifts, so price is not that big of a deal, but I am looking in the sub $300 range. I want a knife that will hold an edge well and not need serious sharpening over a long period of time. I have heard several brands but I have no idea which are good so any input you have is welcome.
If you are actually willing to help me pick out a specific model, here is what I am looking for:
- around 3 inch blade - I don't care exactly what size it is, but I am not going bear hunting with this thing
- holds an edge well over time
- overall thin size - I like my Gerber because it is thin enough that it can slide in my pocket easily
- durable - I am a teenage guy, this knife will be dropped, stepped on, trampled, etc.
Thanks to anyone who is willing to help me out here.
