I lose more and more faith in humanity every day.
1.) I don't think you fully understand how much $25,000 really is. Here's something to get your head around it.
-The car that I drive was $5,000.
-My annual car insurance is $2,100
-My mom makes $10,000 a year as a professional tile mural painter
-My entire computer and monitor cost $1,500
-My dad's CAT backhoe was $15,000
-My college tuition will be about $30,000 a year
-My house was $20,000
-Working as a techie in the summer I'll be lucky if I make $1,500 working 30-hour weeks
-My anti-depression medication costs $150 a month
-My annual tuition at Gonzaga Preparatory is $3,000, not including books and fees.
-$25,000 earning 1% interest in a savings account would earn over $1,275 by the time you're 21.
-$25,000 earning 3% interest in a CD would earn over $8,000 by the time you're 26.
-$7,200 is how much it costs to feed a family of four well for a year.
-A FULL-TIME, YEAR ROUND worker working at minimum wage (federal) earns $10,000 a year. You think you can
earn twice that in 1/3 the time?
-If you work 40 hours a week all summer, starting two weeks into June, with no sick or vacation days, you'll have
to make $10.41 an hour, that's $1.75 an hour HIGHER than the HIGHEST minimum wage in the United States
(Washington, my state :) ), and is about what my dad makes as a 15-year employee working in maintenance for
a local school district, combined with his personal cabinet business.
-A family making under $10,000 a year is legally defined as being in poverty.
-It costs $27,000 to raise a child from birth to age 3.
-It costs $25,000 to raise a child from age 12 to 19.
-$25,000 could feed 86 African children. For a year.
