Spring VS. Gas

Postby Johnny SCARface » Sat Jun 01, 2013 9:08 am

So a friend is trying to sell me his spring sniper rifle. Im somewhat interested, but Id like to know, what is the performance difference of gas and spring snipers? Are gas more accurate? are springs just cheaper? if im getting a sniper, what would the main pros and cons be? any feedback would be appreciated.

Not sure why you'd want a sniper, but...

Gas guns are inconsistent, because temperature affects them a lot. Also easier to cock, since you aren't preparing your firing system.
Spring guns don't depend on temperature, and are harder to cock, as you have the pull the spring back. For realism, the mag is typically way too far forward also.

I know for the spring platform, I've seen a lot more BAR10s/VSRs than L96s. The Remington platform I think tends to be lighter just due to shape, and I always hear people recommending the BAR10 as a great platform for a sniper build.

EDIT: Yes, I know the real reasons why some would want a sniper rifle, but I just thought I'd point out that sniping is not for everyone. Personally, I hate, and can't do it.

Pros:
-Smexy
-Silent
-Uses less BBs

Cons:
-Will have about the same range as an AEG if no mods are done
-No full auto, so you will probably lose any close range encounter
-Long barrel gets in the way if you are in thick forest
-Will cost a lot to upgrade
-Takes a lot of skill (finding good cover, stealth mechanisms, etc)
