[Tutorial] Inexpensive P90 Mag Rig, Pics Added 12/4

Postby HolyHandGrenade » Thu Dec 03, 2009 1:30 pm

EDIT: Pictures added 12/04/09. If you need any help, feel free to PM me.
-------------------
Alright first I'll begin by saying thanks to AWP-NESS (Sorry, I spelled it wrong in the last edit :D), I pmed him about it, and he told me to get the triple AK mag pouch, so I did, and then I added onto his idea. Also, if you like the idea, it can easily be converted to a AK pouch that holds 6 mags or an M4 pouch that holds 9 mags. Until I get pics up this may be confusing (scratch that... Will be extremely confusing). So please bear with me.
This is just a basic guide on how to make a cheap drop-down leg rig (not done permanent so no damge done to it if you ever buy a Molle vest and decide that you want the pouch on it) that holds up to 6 P90 magazines ($30, a LOT less then P90 pouches that are $15 a single pouch...)
--------------------
Materials Needed:
  • OE Tech Triple AK Molle Pouch (I went for OD, ASGI has 4 different colors. Here's link to the search: http://www.airsoftgi.com/advanced_searc ... =triple+ak)
  • Not sure about the techinical term for them, but I used 2 of the nylon belts with the 2 loops (sorry, very sad description... I'll put a pic soon.) Best place to find them are thrift stores... They are EVERY where.
  • Sew-on Velcro Strips (I guess at a craft store or Walmart... Dunno, stole my mother's :P Need approx. 3 feet.)
  • At least 2 P90 magazines (for spacing, why would you be doing this if you don't have 2 mags?)
  • Sharp scissors
  • Your body to measure the orientation of the pouch once it's almost complete?
  • Needle and thread (Haha, better get over your fear of sewing... Time to be... Never mind lol.)
  • Semi-ability to sew... (I suck at it, and I take pride in being bad at it...)
---------------------
First of all, wait for your mag pouch to arrive. Wow, is the wait over already? Well, let's begin then...
  • First, take the mag pouch and put 2 mags (one in each slot) in it. Pull the velcro strap as tight as possible, then take the sew-on Velcro strip ("rough" side) and place it on the underside of the pouch's flap. Secure the "rough" side of the strip to the "soft" velcro on the pouch, then sew it onto the pouch's flap (make sure to sew the Velcro on the correct way *sigh*) Cut the velcro strip at the bottom of the pouch. Take one of the belts and cut a 1"x1/2" strip off to sew onto the velcro where you just clipped it, to make a sort of "quick-rip-off-the-velcro-to-access-the-magazines-thingamajig" (For lack of a better word :D) Repeat whole step on the other two pouches.
Step 1 picture: http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv14 ... 091131.jpg [Yes, I know I only sewed Velcro on two sides, but that''s beacuse I only have 4 mags at the moment, and haven't got around to purchasing a vest, so I need a pouch for my 3 speedloaders (You can never have enough ammo on you...)]
If picture is not detailed enough, scroll down to the completed product picture.
  • Next take the belt and clip the 2 metal rings off. Run the molle strips through the rings until they are at the top of the pouch. Secure the molle strips. Take the belt and sew 2 loops (one on each side) into it that are big enough to fit whatever belt you wear while playing airsoft. Now take the pouch with mags in it, and place it against your leg, figure out how low you want it, then clip the belt into 2 parts leaving 2 inches or so of extra room to make loops for securing the straps to the pouch. Now, take the belt after it has been cut and measure them to make them both the same length. Run an inch or so through the metal rings that you put onto the pouch a minute ago and loop it over and sew it up. You should now have 2 removable (just run the rings back off the molle strips) drop-down belt loops.
    Step 2 Picture: http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv14 ... 91131b.jpg
  • Finally we have to take the remaining belt to make a tightener to secure the pouch to your leg. First run your belt you are wearing through the loops you made in the last step and let the pouch hang loose. Then take the remaining belt and run it through the molle strips and tighten the belt. Clip the belt where it hangs loose leaving approx. 5 inches. Then take the side you jsut clipped, fold it over and sew it together to keep the nylon from running. You now have a very ugly, but funtionable P90 magazine pouch! :o

That's actually pretty cool. Now, what if you left the AK mags their original shape, and just extended the flap. They would serve to each hold like 2-3 mags :D

That's an idea, easy to reverse what I did, may have to find that old OD shooting bag I have and go clippy-clippy on the pouches.

Wait, why the hell are they reviewing P90 mags with an M4 *facepalm*

But anyways, I believe that MAG also makes a pack of P90 mags now that hold about 150 rounds. About time someone found out that a mag that's 2x bigger than an M4 mag should hold more than one...

I forgot who, but someone made the ~150 midcaps, which were a complete failure. So bad, supposedly, that ASGI took them down from their website.
