Well wound't the "best" BB be a 6.0?
(assuming they are no 6.0 barrels)

There are barrels with diameters of 6.0mm, they are even airsoft barrels that have rifleing.

I don't think the rifling is to make the BB twist, I think its to make the air rotate around the BB, but I could be wrong, it may be meant to be used without the hop-up set.

Good News! I picked up a caliper at my father inlaws house today. A nice digital one at that dialing in to the X.XXmm.

As far as the rifling on an airsoft barrel? I know I have rifling on my MadBull, and a friend has it on his Prometheus barrel. I have no idea on the exact true science on it in airsoft however. I do know that is a project is forced to twist, it should stay on a straighter path, hop-up may help with that as well. Perhaps someone with more confirmed knowledge can chime in.

The idea is that they control the airflow around the bb and create a cushion around it so that it will not actually contact the walls of the inner barrel. < TK Twist barrels.

Here is pretty much all of the information on TK Twist barrels - http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/Tanio-Koba-Twist-Rifled-B-t147334.html
