Anti-Spambot Idea

While registering for another forum, I went through a process where I had to solve an equation that went something along the lines of 6*7-10+6=
I don't know if this really works against spambots, but it could potentially block out morons anyway.

38?
It seems like a good idea, but there was a spambot on the local forums that (probably accidentally) posted a part of its code. Part of it looked like a way to bypass the capcha (or however you spell it). It's worth a try, but I don't know how effective it could be if spambots can be coded to bypass those sort of things.

I think that's a little too complicated, lol. When I registered on another forum like last year sometime, I noticed that they have it set so that a user cannot post links or pictures until their post count reaches 50(or whatever the mod(s) set it at). I think this is an awesome idea for preventing spam.

It should also be formated as a picture so you can't copy and paste it.
I like that it doesn't take forever to sign up too, I signed up on one forum once and to keep from having bots you actually had to write out a paragraph or 2 with the required information to join and they read each one.

Requiring people to make intro posts actually works well. Just Need a mod or admin to be on top of it all the time

A picture is still probably the most efficient way to handle new registrations. Quick and fairly effective.
You could also make it AS related and have it ask "What's the name of the gun Tim is holding?" :P
Or make them watch one of the safety videos and have them answer something like "What part of the gun should you never look down?"

well, we I don't think that the gun is that great of an idea, because although most of us could say right off the bat that is a mp5 we don't want to have people that may have never seen the gun and have no idea what it is. you would have to have a larger gun span too. I had a kid see a desert storm memorial with a pair of boots a m16 in the middle and a helmet on top of it, walk up and say ak-47 like he knew exactly what he was talking about. (would have a mini rant but am trying to stay on topic).
I like the math concept because if you can't do rudimentary math you shouldn't be on the forum.

Well, unless you use really simple math it'll still exclude a lot of people. My great grandfather was in the military and knew his guns but he didn't understand a lick of math except when handling money. Equations are gibberish to him, he calculates in coins and bills.
Or maybe just forgo all the fancy stuff and just go with something simple like "What is one plus two?" or "What color is the sky/sea/etc?"
I've encountered a few of those and don't remember those forums ever having any issues with spambots.

But everyone should know how to operate a calculator...

No anti-virus for me either. I dont much like them, pain in the but to use, uses too much system resources, and too many annoying pop-ups. Ive never had a virus either. have a firewall/router, so I dont see the need.
