Echo 1 doesn't upgrade anything... More than likely it DOES have a polycarb piston, unless it's nylon, which is still just fine. 8mm box would either be post-ban JG OEM or VFC oem.

So I tried using some E1 Match Grade .25g bbs in my 2gx cqb over the weekend....Just don't. They have horrible accuracy/range/consistency. Even with my hopup turned all the way up, the bbs dropped at 100ft. - none of them even rise, just arcing down. I had some misfeeds couple times too on AUTO. I've checked my hopup, bucking, and barrel. No excess lubricant or a bad batch of bbs. Had two bags, and both gave the same results. At first I thought it was the gun with a compression issue, but it wasn't.

Went back to using KSC .20s, and they shot fine.

I also noticed they left a lot more residue in the barrel than the KSCs. E1s weren't as well polished, and if it means anything, they smelled like Crosmans...

I think Echo1 does a fair job on guns. Though they may or may not take guns from JG or CYMA or others, they still do a fair job. I opened up my Stag 15 M4 and took a look. Inside, yes the gearbox is metal(But is not cheap!), gears are pretty good metal, Polycarb piston(I think), Beefy spring(If you will), metal spring guide, and decent Hop-Up. Though barrel could use some oil at first. Externals are fair and balanced with both ABS and good metal parts.

Echo 1 has some decent guns. I've had a G36K by them for about two years now, and I used to have a STAG-15 Tactical Carbine. The G36 performs phenomenally, especially with a 9.6v battery. The STAG-15, however, was not very accurate out of the box and didn't seem to have the range that some other guns have.

My verdict on Echo 1 is: if you have a big budget, skip 'em. But if you're a new player or someone looking for a loaner, than you can't go wrong with them. They've got a solid company with some solid guns, I'd just say that you can do better quality-wise.

I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I am thinking of getting a Echo 1Full Metal Platinum Series M4. It costs $360.00. Am I wasting my money on this gun and if so what would be a good buy for about this amount?

It's a VFC, so it's worth it.

Would be better off with getting a VFC though.
